The workshop

Since we bought the new house at the beginning of the year, I've been putting together my workshop. It is so nice to have a place to actually work on stuff. I haven't done much yet, but I have torn some stuff apart, like the keepon you see above.  Most of the stuff I do doesn't make it to hackaday though. For example, I was going to dissect the keepon for hackaday until I noticed that we already covered a keepon dissection... so I just dropped the pictures on flickr.

Yesterday I brought home a free projection TV that won't stay on. I'm not sure what I'll do with that. Surely there's something I could do with the optics!

Going full time at Hackaday.coma

Last week, I finally started working on Hackaday.com FULL TIME. This is extremely exciting. Hackaday has not had a full time person pushing the site for several years now. I've done the best I could part time, with the help of some very hard working writers (Mike Szczys!). However, Hackaday really needed a full time person to keep it from getting left behind.  I've watched over the past few years as other companies like Make and Adafruit have blossomed and done new and creative things on their sites. Take for example Adafruit's google hangouts.... we need to do that too!  Now, finally, I can start to incorporate improvements into hackaday.

I'll also be doing some video projects for hackaday. I have a list a mile long of things I want to build and the thought of finally being able to start producing them makes me almost incapable of sitting still. Keep your eyes on hackaday. Things are just going to keep getting better!

I’m almost finished with this Octophant!

Since the remaining bit is just another stained glass visor, I'll go ahead and post the entire process video. Enjoy!

The beginnings of another mural

My initial idea was to do a smooth transition across my roof from sunset to full night. I ultimately, as you can see, chose the octophant.  However, after seeing it completed someone else asked me to do a mural for their bus. they wanted something with nature, like the woods or something.... perfect.

So, I started today doing a practice run to figure out exactly how to paint this. I think most of the ideas came across well, but the clouds need some work. THIS IS WHY WE PRACTICE.
